This remarkable ability of the brain to change and adapt throughout life is known as neuroplasticity. But brain development is about much more than learning colours, letters, or numbers.

These everyday moments activate many parts of the brain simultaneously. When a toddler builds a tower of blocks, for example, they are not simply learning to stack. They are developing spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, planning, persistence, balance, early mathematics, and flexible thinking—all while strengthening the neural networks that support future learning.
The brain also develops from the bottom up.
Basic systems responsible for movement, balance, sensory processing, and emotional security provide the foundation upon which more complex thinking skills are built.
